Sleep Is Essential

Are you sleeping well?

Too often, we sacrifice sleep in order to cram more into our already busy day. By providing your body with a good nights’ sleep, you allow your body to repair damaged tissue and to synthesize protein. These functions are just a few vital functions your body misses out on when you don’t take care of it.

How much sleep should the average person aim to get? Try to create a routine! If you aim to sleep 6-8 hours a night, you will be able to function at a higher level~ both physically and mentally. Sleep allows your body to recover. Never underestimate the important of recovery.

There are a few tricks to keep your body on the right track.

  1. No one is too old for a bedtime. Creating a routine for yourself is essential. When do you get up? When do you go to bed?

  2. Do you like to sleep cold or warm? I would pick colder. Colder temperatures are proven to help you fall asleep faster and maintain a deep sleep.

  3. Did you workout today? Work yourself out in the morning... sometimes working out at night can make it harder to go to bed.

  4. REDUCE SCREEN TIME. Blue light does not help you fall asleep- rather, it it delays the body’s clock and impairs the release of melatonin (ie it keeps you up). When turning off, make sure your room is dark and your body can start to shut down.

  5. Avoid carb-heavy meals and food that are high in sugar at night

  6. Avoid caffeine after noon. It can stay in your system for up to 6 hours.

  7. Treat your body like a machine
